The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever
The anticipation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
