Suspect Formally Accused with Attempted Murder in Gunfire Attack of National Football League Athlete Kris Boyd
An individual has been charged with trying to kill someone in connection with the attack that injured New York Jets football athlete Kris Boyd.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
The individual charged is a 20-year-old Bronx resident, twenty years old. Authorities arrested him on Monday, charged with assault.
Circumstances of the November Shooting
The traumatic incident took place in the middle of the night of 16 November, near a popular New York City restaurant. Law enforcement described the event as a altercation with a group of strangers.
Boyd, 29 years old, was accompanied by teammates and a third companion in a central part of New York City when the verbal confrontation escalated.
This led to a altercation, during which police allege Green shot the athlete two times in the abdomen.
Severe Wounds and Recovery
The bullet struck Boyd's lung and became embedded in his pulmonary artery. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but was later discharged.
It has been reported he has met with his teammates at a team training location.
Investigation and Arrest in Buffalo
Camera recordings from the scene allegedly captured Green running away and entering a car operated by someone else.
Police apprehended Green on 8 December in a city approximately 580km away, where he was found at his partner's residence.
A law enforcement statement noted that "a person of interest" had been arrested.
When a team converged on the building, the individual was seen "looking out the apartment window looking for an escape avenue but retreated inside after seeing the authorities," the statement added.
The confrontation concluded shortly thereafter, when the suspect exited the apartment with his hands up.
The suspect had "modified his looks likely to avoid detection," law enforcement commented.
Boyd's Career History
Before joining the Jets earlier this year, Boyd played the Arizona Cardinals over several seasons in the league.
The defensive player had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after suffering a shoulder injury during practice in the late summer.
